PAC Meeting June 11th 2012

ATTENDANCE Amy Herfst, Jayne Dekany, Terri Krug, Natalie Sache, Jaimie VandenBrink, Ruth Neufeld and Bonnie Kind.

WELCOME: by Amy Herfst
Approval of minutes from May 14th 2012 meeting: Moved by Terri, 2nd by Bonnie . Approved.
Approval of agenda: Moved by Natalie, seconded by Bonnie. Approved.


 TREASURERS REPORT: By Natalie Sache
  • $94 made from the ice cream sales on Sports Day
  • 3 x large pizzas bought for the volunteers
  • Other expenses due, trophies for Grade 6 students, spinner invoice.
  • PAC Photocopying hasn't been logged correctly, Natalie to look into what last years was.
  • 4-6 weeks until scholastic book money is finalised.
HOT LUNCH REPORT: No more hot lunches this year


PRINCIPALS REPORT: By Ruth Neufeld
  • Kindergarten not yet full, encourage new parents to enrol their children to confirm numbers
  • New Grade 1 Teacher – Carla Thompson
  • Kevin Kavanagh is leaving ECE
  • 2 maternity leavers to be replaced too.
  • Super Readers Assembly June 15th
  • 60minkidsclub assembly June 12th
  • Sports Day – A great success. Request for more family teams. Parents having to run between teams all day. Comments that stations didn't get completed, some disappointed children. Bigger school, extra house team this year. Just ran out of time. Ice cream sales delayed the second part of the day too.
  • Variety Show June 26th at 9am
  • Open House for Dawna Shane Thursday 21st at 2.30pm
  • Awards Assembly for grades 4-6 June 27th 8.30am
OLD BUSINESS:
  • Sports Day – An excellent sunny day, suggested going back to freezies for next year instead of the ice cream sales.
NEW BUSINESS:
  • .Money towards Grade 6 Graduation $100 – Jayne has the dogtags. Party at the Bargs on June 22nd. PAC to offer money towards BBQ food. Jayne checking in what happened last year for Grade 6.
  • Current PAC Committee nominated to remain. Option for anyone else to be nominated to go out on a newsletter (Jayne)
  • Dawna Shanes retirement Jayne to make up a newsletter.
  • Chilliwack Foundation Grant – Amy applying
  • Gaming Grant – Natalie applying

HOT LUNCH REPORT: By Ange Debruyn
  • Ange agreed to do one hot lunch per month. 4 more parents (2 sets of 2 needed to step up to do another 2 lunches)
  • Amy requested the help of Grade 5/6 students to hand out
  • First hot lunch date 21st September
PRINCIPALS REPORT: By Deneen Scott
  • Huge thank you to everyone for making Deneen feel so welcome
  • Open House Policy with Deneen – Visit the office or email anytime.
  • Volunteer Orientation – Friday Sept 14th 1pm- 1:55pm or Monday 17th 8am-9am. Deneen will discuss the needs of the teachers,copyright laws, new parent information,volunteer responsibilities for child safety, CRB record check.
  • Library Help needed
  • Laminator help needed in the office.
  • 3 parents to join the School Planning Council – help with setting new school goals, organise surveys, set new targets (meet every 2-4 weeks). Jayne to check with last years council and see if they want to stay on.
  • Helper needed to hand out fruit and veg once per month. (need food safety certificate)
  • Cut down bus costs, use parent drivers, bring you own booster seat to school this was welcomed by parents. New ICBC driver abstracts to be looked into.
OLD BUSINESS: None carried forward.
NEW BUSINESS:
  • Meet the Teacher & BBQ evening – September 13th 5pm-7pm. Need a few helpers to help with the set up say from 3 onwards. Also a new PAC Booth/Table needs helpers during the 5-7pm session. Tia, Jayne,Amy offered help, the more help the better.
  • PAC Booth/table to show recent spending, PAC projects/fund raising events, Sign up sheets for helpers, general PAC information.
  • Terry Fox Run helpers required – September 27th at Rotary trail. Marshalling, orange cutters (straight at the beginning of the school day) and parents to run/walk with kids needed. Kids to wear a RED shirt that day if possible.
  • New request of a school events board, perhaps lit on the darker evenings to show what is coming up at ECE. Jayne to look into pricing.
  • 4 more smart boards or apple projects for classrooms,plus 2 kindergarten class need something too.
  • BIG SRING EVENT – SUGGESTIONS PLEASE. Hoe-down seemed a great choice as the last one some years ago was a great success
  • Movie Night set for Thursday October 18th, 5.30 doors open, movie starts at 6pm. Natalie arranging pizza and event.
  • Destination Imagination – Checkout the DI website www.destinationimagination.org and get involved. News teams needed, plus can anyone help one lunchtime per week for small projects? Well done Nicole for not getting emotional this year.
